Building Information Modelling (BIM)
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the next generation of digital representation for architectural projects. Guardian® BIM objects have been produced by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and are tailored to be as compatible and easy to use as possible with BIM authoring software.
How to use Guardian® BIM objects
Each Guardian® product has two types of files associated; Components and Materials. These are produced in IFC and Revit format.
Components - These are used to create the BIM object within the project design.
Materials - These are associated to the components and provide the product data set.
Guardian® BIM objects
1) Download the required component - There is a choice of Monolithic Glass, Double Glazed, or Triple Glazed. These components are generic, so once you've downloaded all three they will work with all the different materials.
2) Set the component up in your BIM project - the glass objects can be fitted into any window or glazing system, as well as balustrades, partitions, external fin's, etc. The objects provide the flexibility to satisfy any flat glass application.
3) Download the required material - Guardian products are set up as materials which can be downloaded along with object guides to help you author the BIM products to your project. Each material is specific to the Guardian product, so you'll need to download the specific Revit or IFC file for that product in order to associate it to the chosen component.
4) Associate each material to the required glass or glazing construction. Example: you can set a SunGuard up as the outer pane and a float or laminated glass as the inner pane of the component glazing.
5) Make any data set changes required - as well as providining material objects for standard Guardian products, you may wish to make more detailed changes to the objects. Example: you can change the data set for a SunGuard outer pane to specify the coating on laminated or heat treated glass instead of annealed float glass.
6) Determine the glass makeup - specify the expected thickness of the glass, IGU construction, cavity size, gas, etc
